What are UTM parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL that tell analytics tools (Google Analytics, GA4, etc.) where a visitor came from. Example:
https://yoursite.com/page?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=spring-launch
The five UTM fields
Source (required) — where the traffic comes from: instagram, google, newsletter
Medium (required) — the marketing channel: social, email, cpc, referral
Campaign (required) — the campaign name: spring-sale, product-launch, bio-link
Term (optional) — paid keywords, mostly for Google Ads
Content (optional) — differentiate ad versions: top-button, banner-a
